Green Guard

The mission of the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) is to improve public health and quality of life through programs that improve indoor air. In accordance with that mission, GEI currently has three third-party certification programs: GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality, GREENGUARD Children and Schools, and GREENGUARD Building Construction.

Benjamin Moore products that have been third party tested to meet or exceed GREENGUARD's standards:

  • Aura,
  • Aura Bath and Spa,
  • Natural,
  • Eco Spec WB
  • Single-Ply LVOC Bonding Adhesive

Single-Ply LVOC Bonding Adhesive has a solvent-based formulation that is compatible with EPDM and TPO membranes. Compliant with the Ozone Transport Commission's (OTC) regulations on VOCs, Single-Ply LVOC Bonding Adhesive provides a comparable application to standard solvent-based bonding adhesives but with a faster dry time, and is easier to use than water-based alternatives. Single-Ply LVOC Bonding Adhesive bonds membranes to approved insulations in addition to wood, metal, masonry and other acceptable substrates, and provides high performance with good adhesion characteristics.

Now get potential energy savings (and even tax credits) when you install GAF Timberline® Cool Series Shingles.

Thanks to modern reflective technology, you can join the green revolution with Cool Series roofing shingles. Our highly reflective shingles can help to reduce temperatures in your attic, so your home will stay cooler in the summer—to save on air conditioning costs.

Simply put, our Cool Series shingles use specially-designed roofing granules that have greater reflectance than traditional shingles. The result is, it minimizes the transfer of heat to the space below—to keep you cooler in the summer.

Not only that, Timberline® Cool Series shingles are made with the patented StainGuard® algae protection to assure the beauty of your roof against unsightly blue-green algae!

Thanks to the reflective nature of the Cool Series Shingles, part of the heat coming from the sun gets reflected, reducing the heat in the attic, and heat going into the house. It may translate into substantial savings in air conditioning bills.

Cool roofs may save residents an avg. 7-15%** of total cooling costs, depending on geography, structure and climate. In warmer climates, cooling-cost savings may be greater year round.

A cool roof minimizes the solar heat gain of a building by first reflecting incoming sun rays and then by quickly re-emitting the remaining absorbed portion. As a result, the cool roof stays cooler than a traditional roof of similar construction.

Cement board siding is a frequent part of green design in home building. Considered a lifetime product, it is expected to last as long as the house does. Unlike wood and vinyl, it will not need to be replaced, and it will never warp or buckle like vinyl or aluminum. It is very low maintenance, resisting mold, mildew and holding paint well with no peeling or chipping. All of these features make cement board siding a good choice for someone hoping for green construction in a home.
